A year in Provence (minus 360 days)

Writer: The Bald JournallerThe Bald Journaller

Me again ... and only a month since my last outpouring of travel trivia, bile and junk! We've popped over to Provence for a quick break and not sure how much time I will find to furnish you with my erudition! But hopefully will find enough for a few nice pictures and a few words...

Anyone foolish enough to have read my so called article "Old Blue Eyes" will have heard of my friend John, met on the Trans-Siberian. In fact there was some poetic license there as, although it is absolutely true we met in Irkutsk, we actually travelled in the same direction from there to Moscow, a mere 78 continuous hours on the train, with nothing to see but Taiga. We had plenty of time to get to know each other well over a few bottles of Russian champagne (not recommended) and the ubiquitous vodka (the opposite!)

We have remained good friends, meeting over the years since 2001 in Vancouver (his home) and in Brighton - and southern Italy, Paris... And here we are in Provence! And guess what, I'm talking! How does Nareesa manage to time these pictures so well?

Most reading this will know Provence better than me (except our Aussie friends of course - its in southern France!), so will need no introduction to the beautiful limestone countryside, with amazing hilltop villages seemingly clinging to the rock more by will power than architectural design. Markets galore with fresh local produce to be then consumed with chilled rose by the pool in the afternoon - whats not to like!

We managed a visit (to the outside) of Pierre Cardin's chateau, above Lacoste (is that one of his brands?), where I embraced the views and culture, ;-)

In the main we are chilling out, playing the occasional game of boule (illicit practise for the trip to Dieppe in two weeks time, should never have admitted that), drinking the local wine and eating the local food. And in my case somehow managing to buy €60 worth of cheese (giraffe carving, Tanzania?) - no wonder he is happy.

Gonna be hard to come back on Sunday. Without further ado, a selection of pics from our trip so far... (more in the Gallery)
